Troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan got a special surprise in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The USO, with the help of Blackwater Worldwide, 3Di Technologies, AAR and Lockheed Martin, delivered 18 Mobile Entertainment Gaming System, or MEGS, to troops in remote and isolated areas throughout the region. This was a deserved break for the troops who are unable to spend the holiday with their families.

As part of the MEGS delivery, USO Fort Drum and USO Afghanistan hosted their first interactive video gaming competition between soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division and coalition troops in Afghanistan. This real-time, Xbox Live® video game match was the of its kind using the USO’s MEGS, developed by Blackwater Worldwide.

MEGS is a portable, self- contained and highly durable multi media platform created to give service members endless hours of fun and relaxation. With the ability to be set up and broken down in minutes, MEGS are built to accommodate four players simultaneously. Each MEGS can be configured to support the XBOX® 360, PlayStation® 3 and the Nintendo® Wii™ gaming system, and come equipped with all the necessary adapters, cables and routers, which makes set up very easy for service members. Each MEGS can be linked together with another MEGS, allowing service members in different locations to play one another.
